What Is the Shō Hassenmai-ku
Praying for everyone's well-being

A goma performed through a day-and-night fast

What Is the Shō Hassenmai-ku

The Shō Hassenmai-ku is a goma rite with Fudo Myoo as the principal deity, in which 8,000 goma sticks are offered into the fire while the practitioner keeps a day-and-night fast.

The practitioner prays for about eight hours.

Together with Fudo Myoo, the aim is to burn away defilements and attain enlightenment overnight.

This page is a record of a past service. To apply for a service that is open now, please see the latest information.

Attending and Joining In (Zuiki)

This observance needed the help of many people. For the final day, we invited those who came to worship to chant Fudo Myoo's mantra together with us.

Those who requested prayers online could hear their prayers read aloud on the live stream.

Joining in an observance (zuiki) lets you accumulate virtue (TOK). When enough virtue has accumulated, you can request a prayer free of charge. Zuiki means taking part in an observance, and every observance at Byodoji can be joined remotely. Please open this site while an observance is in progress.
