Kyuri Kaji is a secret ritual introduced to Japan by the great monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi) to heal diseases, ward off disasters, and suppress evil tendencies.
In the same way that the human body is mostly composed of water, the term 'Kyuri Kaji' refers to sealing one's own illnesses, calamities, and bad habits inside a cucumber and burying it in the ground.
It is held every year on the Midsummer Day of the Ox, which falls on July 23rd this year. At Byodoji Temple, 'Kyuri Kaji' has been conducted remotely since Reiwa 2nd year.
You are welcome to come to the temple, or you can also participate remotely via YouTube or other platforms.
If you want to rid yourself of diseases, if you feel like you've been experiencing a series of misfortunes lately, or if you have long-standing bad habits, seal them in the cucumber and live with a renewed spirit. 🙏
