What is Sukuyo Astrology

Sukuyo Astrology (Sukuyō-senseijutsu) is the teaching of the stars based on the esoteric Buddhist scripture "Sukuyo-kyō" that Kōbō Daishi Kūkai brought back from Tang China.

At the moment of your birth, one of the Big Dipper stars becomes your guardian "Honmyō-shō" (natal star), and together with its corresponding "Ganjin-jō" (original star), governs your lifelong destiny.

Furthermore, these nine luminous stars determine your fortune for each year as the annually rotating "Tōnen-jō" (annual star).

What is Star Memorial Service

Star Memorial Service (Hoshi-kuyō) is a ritual service of offerings and prayers to these stars.

• Years of auspicious stars → Pray for "Zōyaku" (increase of benefits) so that good fortune overflows even more
• Years of inauspicious stars → Pray for "Sokusai" (peace and safety) to calm disasters and bring tranquility

During this sacred season from winter solstice to Risshun Setsubun—when yin reaches its extreme and turns to yang—we solemnly perform 14 ritual services to pray for the protection of the stars.
