What Is the Shō Hassenmai-ku
焼八千枚供は、開白から結願まで護摩と念誦を重ね、結願の日には断食のまま八千枚の護摩木を炎に投じる、真言密教の大きな修法です。古くから「願求悉皆成就の法」とも伝わります。
本年は5月3日に春の焼八千枚供を終えたばかりですが、本尊薬師如来の前で、もう一度この祈りを重ねたいという思いがどうしても離れませんでした。そこで、急なご案内ではありますが、5月17日にあらためて開白し、今月も焼八千枚護摩供を勤めることにいたしました。
2026年6月7日結願の焼八千枚護摩供は、本尊薬師如来を仰ぎ、5月18日から5月31日午前までは一日三座の薬師法を勤めます。前行はすでに行ったばかりですので、この期間は護摩なしで勤めます。薬師法は一座一時間半とし、5月24日の日曜午後三時の座は薬師護摩として修します。5月31日午後から6月7日早朝までは、一座三時間の薬師護摩を重ねます。
十万遍念誦は最後の一週間で満じ、6月7日の早朝三時の座、午前八時開始の結願の座へ進みます。どうぞこの勝縁に、みなさまの願いをお託しください。

開白から結願までの22日間
開白は2026年5月17日、結願は6月7日でした。開白の日は15時から17時まで護摩を勤めました。
5月18日から5月31日午前までは、早朝5時、日中10時、午後3時に始まる一日三座で薬師法を勤めました。薬師法は一座一時間半でした。5月24日の日曜午後3時の座は、薬師護摩として修しました。5月31日午後から6月7日早朝までは、一座三時間の薬師護摩を重ねました。
最終日は早朝3時に始まる薬師護摩を勤め、午前8時に始まる結願の座へ進みました。十万遍念誦は最後の一週間で満じました。

Prayers for healing and bodily well-being
Looking up to Yakushi Nyorai, the principal deity of Byodoji carved by Kobo Daishi, we performed the rite with prayers for healing from illness and good health, in keeping with his vow “to heal the illnesses of mind and body of all beings equally.”

The Wishes We Received
This Shō Hassenmai-ku was performed with wishes for healing from illness and good health at its center. Each request could include more than one wish.
Good health
A prayer for those who wish to live each day without serious illness, or who are concerned about a weakening body.
Protection from cancer
A prayer that receives many earnest wishes, such as for safe treatment, prevention of recurrence, and milestones like checkups.
Strong legs and back
A prayer for those who wish to keep walking well, and for those worried about elderly family members.
Peace of body and mind
We also received wishes concerning long-term illness and ailments, such as healing of eye disease, relief from mental illness, and relief from diabetes.
Daily life and karmic ties
We also received prayers for family safety, freedom from misfortune, lifelong good fortune, a good match, academic success, traffic safety, and memorial offerings for ancestors.

There were six prayer plans. Applicants chose one plan and added temple items as they wished.
Ofuda sizes were: O, a 30 cm paper ofuda; B, a 30 cm wooden ofuda; C, a 30 cm special wooden ofuda; S, 45 cm; and SS, 60 cm.

For C, S, and SS, the color of the ofuda could be chosen. When no color was specified, lapis was used.

A Choice of 20 Colors of Awa Washi
Each special wooden ofuda had the wish written in gold on the wood and was wrapped in an Awa washi hakama (wrapper). The color could be chosen from the 20 below; when none was specified, lapis was used.
