The Obon season has come again this year. Obon is the time of year when our ancestors come to enjoy time at home once a year. Families come together to welcome their ancestors on August 13, treat them well, and see them off on the 16th (the date may vary depending on local customs). This event used to be held all over Japan. Today, as the nature of the family and home has changed, the nature of Obon has naturally changed as well.

Especially in recent years, the threat of Covid-19, a new coronavirus infection, has made it difficult to travel. We receive many comments at the temple, such as, "I can't go back to my parents' house," "I really want to visit the graves, but I can't," and so on.

Therefore, since 2020, Byodoji Temple has been conducting remote memorial services for our ancestors. Through the screen, we can share the time of prayer. If you would like to pray for, make offerings to, or worship your ancestors in this way, please apply for this service.

供養のあり方

The period of the memorial service is one week, starting with the morning service on August 10, followed by the daily morning service at 6:00 a.m., evening service at 4:00 p.m., and the reading of the prayers at the Shigataki-e at 8:00 p.m. until August 16.

You can also apply online for a memorial service certificate, a wooden prayer card, and a stupa. We will send your order to you after August 17, after the "Soul Insertion" ceremony and one week of memorial service, so please enshrine it with care when you receive it.
