The season of Obon has come again this year. Obon is a special time when the spirits of the deceased come home once a year to enjoy their time with their families. Families gather to welcome their ancestors, treat them kindly, and bid them farewell on the 16th (the date may vary depending on the local customs). While this event used to be held all over Japan, the way families and homes are structured has changed, and naturally, the way Obon is celebrated has also changed.

Especially in recent years, due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become difficult to travel. We receive various voices at the temple, such as 'I can't go home to my parents' house' or 'I want to visit the grave, but I can't go back.'

Therefore, at Byodoji Temple, we have been conducting remote memorial services for ancestors since Reiwa 2nd year. Through the screen, you can share the time of prayer. If you would like to pray for and memorialize your ancestors in this way, please apply.

供養のあり方

The memorial period is one week. Starting with the morning service on August 10th, we will recite prayers and hold memorial services at 6:00 in the morning, 16:00 in the evening, and 20:00 for the Segaki ceremony until the 16th.

You can also apply for dedication certificates, wooden plaques, and stupa memorial services online. After the unveiling and one week of memorial services, they will be shipped after August 17th, so please keep them in a sacred place once they arrive.
